John Smith and John Anderson

I am proud to report that over the Queen's birthday long weekend two of my constituents John Smith and John Anderson received awards.

John Anderson received the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to rugby league. John's involvement with rugby league spans decades, including a long association with South Newcastle Rugby League Club. Choc, as he is affectionately known, is chairman of the Country Rugby League of New South Wales. He is passionate about ensuring that the bush receives its fair share. As a sports lover, John has been active with the Hunter Academy of Sport and uses sport as a motivator to encourage children to attend school. He has believed in this approach from the earliest days, regardless of the choice of sport. He is also heavily involved in raising funds for Hunter Surf Life Saving.

John Smith received a medal for his tireless service and contribution to Hunter sport, including bowls, cricket and rugby league. He has provided 30 years of service to the sport of bowls, in which he has performed roles in executive management, regulation development and conflict resolution. John holds life membership at Kahibah Sports Club and has helped to maintain a pleasurable bowling experience at the club.

I commend John and Choc.
