Traffic flow improvements on Hillsborough Road and Newcastle Inner City Bypass, Hillsborough from Monday 6 May

Upgrades tothe intersection of Hillsborough Road and Newcastle Inner City Bypass to improve traffic flows and reduce congestion.

Roads and Maritime Services will start work on the first stage of improvements on Hillsborough Road and the Newcastle Inner City Bypass from Monday 6 May. Work will involve installing traffic lights on the roundabout to help reduce queues on the southbound off-ramp from the Newcastle Inner City Bypass and on Hillsborough Road.

Traffic queue detectors will be installed on the southbound off-ramp from the Newcastle Inner City Bypass and on the roundabout to trigger the traffic lights to stop southbound and eastbound traffic when there are queues. Work will also involve minor road widening and line marking changes. Please see above map.

Early work involves under boring and digging trenches to prepare for the installation of the traffic lights. Work will commence between 9.30am and 2.30pm from Monday to Friday and between 7pm and 4.30am from Sunday to Thursday. The early work is expected to be completed in two weeks, weather permitting.

Work will not be carried out during peak traffic times to minimise disruption to motorists.

How will the work affect you?

The work will involve the use of machinery which may generate some noise.Efforts will be madeto minimise noise and lighting impacts, by turning machinery off when not in use and positioning stationary equipment away from residential areas.

Traffic changes

There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe.
