Long- Term Gendered Poverty

19 September 2018

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move that this House:

Notes that the rate of homelessness for women over 46 is dramatically increasing in my electorate due to chronic long- term gendered poverty;
Notes that despite this, a miserable 0.01% percent of the private rental market is affordable to women on Newstart;
Notes that this has resulted in an increase of women sleeping in their cars and couch-surfing straining local not- for- profit homelessness services;
Calls on the Government to provide adequate long-term social housing for the many struggling women in Charlestown who desperately need a permanent home.
