SCHOOL AIR-CODITIONING POLICY FOR CHARLESTOWN

27 November 2018

NSW LABOR'S SCHOOL AIR- CONDITIONINGPOLICY REMAINS BETTER & FAIRER THAN THE GOVERNMENT'S

The current Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, refuses to air-condition every school in the Charlestown electorate.

If elected in March 2019, a NSW Labor Government will ensure that ALLof our kids go to school in an environment that is condusive to learning.

Features of NSW Labors Cools Schools Policy:

Every school is eligible: there is no artificial maximum temperature hoop for schools to jump through.
Smart and Sustainable: solar panels will be used to offset the running costs of air-conditioning providing many other benefits to schools.
More funding: $300 million will be directed from the Berejiklian Government's stadium splurge to air condition school.

Government Policy Features too little, too late and still too hard for hundreds of schools:

The first round of the $500 millionCooler ClassroomsFund was announced by the Government in this years state budget.
The program only provides for schools that experience an average maximum January temperature of 30C and above to receive air conditioning automatically.

It doesnt take an expert to tell you that students and teachers will always struggle in a sweltering classroom - they are easily distracted, fatigued and unable to achieve quality teaching and learning outcomes" - Jihad Dib, NSW Shadow Minister for Education
