WHITE BALLOON DAY

25 September 2018

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move that this House:

Notes that Friday 7th of September was recognised around Australia as White Balloon Day;
Notes that White Balloon Day unites communities annually to break the silence on sexual assault and make a commitment to protecting children;
Notes that from April 2017 to March 2018 the child sexual offence rates for the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle Local Government Areas were 658 and 802 per population of 100,000, which is far above the NSW state average of 517.3;
Thanks Bravehearts for their contribution to minimizing the destructive impact of child sexually assault in the electorate of Charlestown and
Calls on the Government to provide sufficient education, policing and support services to deal with the significantly higher rates of child sexual assault in Lake Macquarie and Newcastle LGAs
