Mr Larry Keating's 50 years in education

10 May 2023

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault): After 50 years in education, Mr Larry Keating is still incredibly passionate about his calling.

As the principal of St Mary's Catholic College in Gateshead since 2004, Mr Keating has overseen the college's expansion into a year 7 to 12 high school and maintains his focus on creating a positive environment and good learning outcomes for all students.

The Diocese of Maitland‑Newcastle presented Mr Keating with a 50‑year service award in recognition of reaching his milestone at the beginning of the 2023 school year. Mr Keating has been a mainstay in Catholic education in the Hunter region.

He has taught at a number of local schools, including St Pius X and St Paul's Catholic College. He first set foot into St Mary's as a teacher in 1985. Under his leadership the school has gone from strength to strength. Mr Keating impresses all who meet him with his passion for education and his unwavering commitment to creating a positive learning environment for all.

I know I also speak for the member for Swansea. I congratulate, Mr Keating.
